ABSTRACT
Nurses facilitate the entire health care journey from hospital admission to discharge. This role gives them unique perspective and power to drive positive patient outcomes. However, understaffing of nursing personnel in local government hospital is causative factor that leads to resignations, change of profession, moving to another hospital with a higher salary, and migration to other countries. Thereby intensifying the shortage in local government hospitals like Ospital ng Lungsod ng San Jose Del Monte of Bulacan. Qualitative narrative research method was used in this study. Interview guide questions were validated by experts in the academe with chosen nurse supervisors, head nurses and staff nurses as participants. The study affirmed the opinions and ideas of the nurses on understaffing in the Ospital ng Lungsod ng San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. Moreover, this study revealed the negative effects of understaffing in the physical health, mental health and emotional challenges of nurses in the said hospital. Based on the results of the study enhancement of policies on the nurse staffing towards the well-being of nurses was framed.
